July 2018 Simon Gomes
I have spent over fifteen years in the graphic design and advertising industry and worked for numerous brands. Since 2001, I have also worked at University Centre Doncaster as the course leader for the BA (Hons) Graphic Design programme.
I live and breathe art and design, as I do music, and one genre provides more enjoyment than any other. I love the Blues; I have loved them for as long as I can remember. I listen to everyone, from the great blues legends of the past to the lesser-known club circuit bands of today.
In July of 2014, I started the process of celebrating my love for the Blues by creating a selection of artwork. Many of the pieces you will see in the exhibition were initially created in colour, and it was never my intention to produce work in black and white, but as time passed, it just felt right. It developed into my signature style and I continue to apply it across a range of other themes.
You may not know many of the songs I have paid visual homage to, but I hope you get as much pleasure out of looking at them, as I did in creating them. I also hope that my artwork inspires you to find out more about this fascinating and beautiful music that is the Blues. Long may it live.
